So Andrea wrote a letter to the editor at NY Magazine in response to their article on "Pegacide". Little did she know that it would get published.
Well, actually we thought it did have a good chance! Especially with this guy's letter—
"Pegacide is hardly the blood sport you make it out to be…"
They did trim her mad letter down a bit though...so here for your viewing pleasure is the original letter-
Love your recent issue on 123 Reasons to Love NY Right Now. But I hate to break it to you, No. 55 "A Game called Pegacide" wasn't invented in New York. As a kid, we used to play a very very similiar game in Northern New Jersey called "Butts Up" back in the eighties. But there were some brutal differences (or maybe those New York kids aren't telling you something).
Once I got "pegged" in the nose after coming back from touching the wall. I bled like a banshee. And if you got three outs, you had to take a chance being pegged in the butt. You put your hands up against the wall and butt out and up (hence, butts up) and the person who pegged you last, took a shot.
Rumor has it that our elementary/middle school banished the game when some poor kid's hip bone was broken.
Now that's old school, baby.
Yeah!
